Love her or hate her, you’ll find yourself at her doorstep night after night. Gin Palace has an amazing pull on people who really ought to know better. This late night den of booze and revelry will leave you broke and delirious at 4am, yet ready to do it all over again the next night. Intimate and plush, this gentlemen’s club meets high class bordello embraces you with charm, killer cocktails and superb late night nibbles. Sit on a red velvet couch under Sophia Loren’s beautiful pout and sip the Palace’s mighty and bitey Bloody Mary. The tree trunk sized celery stick serves as a swizzle stick, a dose of vitamin C, and a patch of shade. Palace’s Martinis are also legendary, although they will make you go sideways within minutes. ┬áThe bar is home to around 55 gins and rare scotches, along with a very decent selection of old Australian wines and Grand Marc Champagnes.

The delicious chicken sandwiches (available till 3am) will save your life, with the tender mayo-chicken mix clamped together by little white bread triangles. The French cheese platter is fabo too. The Palace will fleece you of your respect and cash, but it’s a mighty fine way to go down if that’s your end game.

Must try: The Gimlet (made with house-made lime cordial, which attempts to come close to the original recipe, using roses lime cordial) and the chicken sandwiches.

How much: Bloody Mary $18; Gimlet $18; Chicken sandwiches $10
