The trick with Mamasita is to get there late and then play catch up with tequila. If that ain’t your thing, you’re in the wrong room kiddo. This Mexican restaurant permanently pounds with punters, who revel in pages of high-end, 100% agave tequila and late night Mexican feasting. After a certain point it becomes a tad riotous and that’s half the fun. The braised pork taco with pineapple, coriander and white onion is lip-smackingly good. The grilled prawns with toasted garlic and green almond sauce is decidedly other-worldly. The entire menu (quesedillas, tacos, tostaditas, guacamole, braised meats etc) is 100% gluten free (amazing) and the taqueria menu is available from 11pm onwards. Brilliant for post-show eats at the Paris end of Collins St.
Must try: Quesadillas de Queso (cheese); Mole Poblano con Pollo (chicken mole stew) all washed down with a Michelada (Mexican Minerva beer, mixed with salt, habanero hot sauce, tomato juice and fresh lime)
How much? $4.40-$26 (remember the Sharing Dish Cost Creep is at play here)
